About our Springfield the concrete company

I run The Springfield Concrete Company, and what we do is flatwork: driveways, sidewalks, patios, garage slabs and front steps, here in Springfield and out to Chicopee, Agawam, East Longmeadow, Wilbraham, Ludlow and West Springfield.

I like this work. Screeding a slab flat on a cool morning is the best part of my week, and I'd rather do it than manage anybody doing it.

You know the driveway I mean. Spidered cracks, a patch somebody feathered on with a trowel, and that dip by the apron that holds a puddle from Thanksgiving to April. We take it out and leave one clean gray sheet with tooled joints and a straight edge along the lawn.

Smallest job I'll take is a set of front steps or a small pad under an AC condenser. Largest is a full tear out and repour with new apron, footings, steps and a stamped patio out back.

We're not the cheapest quote you'll get, and that's on purpose. We dig to solid ground, lay processed gravel and compact it in lifts, and we come back to saw the control joints instead of hoping the slab cracks where we want it to.

The base is the part nobody ever sees, like Larry Bird alone in a gym at six in the morning. Skip it and the slab tells on you by the second winter of salt and freeze-thaw.

If it's late in the season and the ground is frozen, I'll tell you to wait for spring rather than take your money and pour on ice.
